Guruprasad Mohapatra Assumes charge as Secretary DPIIT

Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra,an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officer of 1986 batch,today assumed charge of the office of Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in New Delhi.

Prior to taking over as Secretary, DPIIT, he served as Chairman of Airports Authority of India (AAI). Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra brought about many changes in AAI’s strategic operations. He gave new direction to AAI and steered it to achieve greater excellence in the sector of airport infrastructure development not only at the metro airports but also in tier II and tier III cities.

India to conduct 1st National Time Release Study to enable faster movement of cargo across borders to benefit traders

The Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, as part of its strategic commitment to improve global trade, is conducting India’s first national Time Release Study (TRS) between 1st – 7th August. The exercise will be institutionalized on an annual basis, during the same period every year hereafter. The TRS is an internationally recognized tool advocated by World Customs Organization to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of international trade flows.

Mr. Girraj Prasad Gupta takes over as the Controller General of Accounts (CGA)

Mr. Girraj Prasad Gupta took over as the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) in national capital here today. Earlier, the Government of India had appointed, Mr. Girraj Prasad Gupta a 1983-batch Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) Officer, as the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance with effect from August 1, 2019.

KABIL Set up to Ensure Supply of Critical Minerals

A joint venture company namely Khanij Bidesh India Ltd. (KABIL) is to be set up with the participation of three Central Public Sector Enterprises namely, National Aluminium Company Ltd.(NALCO), Hindustan Copper Ltd.(HCL) and Mineral Exploration Company Ltd. (MECL). The Minister of Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs Shri Pralhad Joshi said that the objective of constituting KABIL is to ensure a consistent supply of critical and strategic minerals to Indian domestic market.

IAF launches 3D mobile video game on missions, combats

New mobile video game, themed on various aerial combats and missions, including airstrikes, undertaken by the Indian Air Force (IAF) was on Wednesday launched by the Air Chief Marshal B S Dhanoa, seeking to give the youth a “realistic feel of the Air Force.”

The game, ‘Indian Air Force: A Cut Above’, will let the users know more about the IAF, and motivate them to take it up as a challenging and exhilarating career option, he said. The game, available on both Android and iOS, aims to engage audience above the age of 14.

Amazon signs lease pact with GMR Airport City

E-commerce giant Amazon.in has signed a lease agreement with GMR Hyderabad Airport City to expand its largest fulfilment centre (FC) in the country. The existing FC, which is spread across 4 lakh square feet, will now be expanded by another 1.80 lakh sft.

With this agreement, the total processing area of Amazon.in in Telangana has gone up to 8.50 lakh sft. Amazon has three fulfilment centers in Hyderabad with more than 32 lakh cubic feet of storage space and two sorting centers in Hyderabad with 1 lakh sft of processing capacity. It has about 1.70 lakh sellers in the State.

Microsoft partners Apollo Hospitals to fight cardiovascular diseases

Microsoft India and Apollo Hospitals Group have joined hands to set up a National Clinical Coordination Committee (NCCC), which will guide the two entities on all cardiology and cardiovascular related Artificial Intelligence projects.

It will also provide clinical insights on developing clinical algorithms and treatment guidelines based on the inferences of national, multi-centre prospective study.

Flipkart launches initiative to bring indigenous artisans products on its platform

E-commerce company Flipkart  launched ‘Samarth’, an initiative to bring weavers, artisans and makers of handicrafts to its platform.

Flipkart claimed that this initiative could give such communities access to its Indian customer base of over 150 million. Anurag Thakur, Minister of State, Finance and Corporate Affairs, launched this initiative along with Kalyan Krishnamurthy, CEO, Flipkart Group.

Flipkart Samarth will support such artisans, weavers, etc, by on-boarding them and helping them in the process of selling on the internet. This includes support for cataloguing, account management, seller support, and warehousing support.

Quess Corp to end JV pact with East Bengal FC

Bengaluru-based Quess Corp is planning to exit its investment in the century-old Kolkata-based football club, East Bengal. Quess has been the title sponsor for the club for over a year now, and owns a majority stake in it through a joint-venture arrangement. The exit is likely to happen in the next six to nine months.

East Bengal FC is one of the legacy football giants in India and has participated in all major tournaments, except the Indian Super League.

Google features Muthulakshmi Reddi in doodle

The most-used search engine on the Internet, Google dedicated its doodle on Tuesday to Muthulakshmi Reddi, one of the country’s first successful women doctors in the early 20th century and the first woman legislator, on her 133rd birth anniversary.

Reddi was born in 1886 in the princely state of Pudukottai. The doodle illustration by a Bengaluru-based guest artist, Archana Sreenivasan, shows the Padma Bhushan awardee (1956) carrying a book in her right hand, while her left is shown guiding other women in the background.

Crisil cuts India’s GDP growth to 6.9 per cent

Crisil has sliced its estimate of India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth by 20 basis points to 6.9 per cent for this fiscal, following a triangulation of downside risks. The risks include weak monsoon, slowing global growth and sluggish high-frequency data for the first quarter.

MS Velpari takes over as Director Operations at HAL

MS Velpari, has taken the charge as Director - Operations HAL from Sunil Kumar who superannuated on July 31. Earlier, he held the post of Chief of Project (LCA Tejas) at LCA-Tejas Division. Velpari holds a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from College of Engineering, Guindy, Chennai and did his Masters from IIT Madras in Aircraft Production Engineering. India, Russia sign Rs 1,500 crore deal for R-27 missile

India has signed a deal worth around Rs 1,500 crore to acquire R-27 air-to-air missiles from Russia.It will be equipped on the Su-30MKI combat aircraft.The R-27 missile is a medium-to-long-range air-to-air missile developed by Russia for its MiG and Sukhoi series of fighter jets.

Rajiv Kumar appointed Finance Secretary

Rajiv Kumar has been appointed as the Finance Secretary by virtue of his seniority.Mr. Kumar is the most senior official among the five Secretaries in the Ministry. As per the norm, the most senior IAS officer in the Ministry is designated as the Finance Secretary.

India, UK launch clean air initiative -IfCA in Bengaluru

India and UK have launched a joint initiative named Innovating for Clean Air (IfCA) that will provide its stakeholders an opportunity to test interventions related to air quality and EV integration. It was launched in Bengaluru.The programme is led by Innovate UK — part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) — and is funded by the Newton Fund. The key partners for the programme are the Indian Institute of Science, Enzen, Project Lithium, Confederation of Indian Industry, C40 Cities and Clean Air Platform
